Description:
This album is a first in a series of “songbook” style albums I did for wonderful pianist and arranger Keith Ingham (with all star bands). I must confess, having learned all the standards by ear with my mom at the piano (rather than seeing the music sheets), I was not aware of the name Burton Lane. Unfortunately, composers, like writers, are not as known as the performers or actors who do their work. Burton Lane had this to say about Maxine (quite a tribute since every major star has recorded his songs):
“Poor you! I am sorry for you will never know what it is like to be the composer of these songs, and have a singer as wonderful as you to sing them. You’re really something special.”
